2024 Tomato Arts Festival

The Tomato Art Show returns for its 21st year as a fundamental part of the annual Tomato Art Fest. The art show proved to be so popular it quickly became an entire festival. Each year the art show highlights some of Nashville’s favorite artists alongside community contributors that are both new to the scene and seasoned creators.

Art will be hung and displayed in a gallery setting for the weekend of the festival.  We encourage the community to view and browse the gallery, as all items they see are available for purchase in person or online. Each year an estimated 10,000 people view the artwork in person.

A panel of art-loving community members review all artwork and award cash prizes to artists in several categories including, Best in Show, Best Emerging Art, Festival Spirit, You’re So Nashville, Heirloom, Best use of Humor, and Multiple Merit awards.

UTK Nexus 2024 Interdisciplinary Conference

The theme of the 2024 NEXUS Interdisciplinary Conference welcomes conversations regarding a multiplicity of home/body spaces and aims to gain a greater understanding of how to navigate our homes and ourselves when the rooting or grounding of this space is dichotomous with the bodies that we inhabit.

Especially since coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, awareness of the physical self and the lived space are heightened, making this a particularly apt subject to examine. Questions of embodiment relate to many fields, such as rhetoric, anthropology, disability studies, gender and sexuality studies, philosophy, and existential phenomenology, to name a few.

Artist statement: "[the painting is] an abstract portrait of a figure reclining in a field, surrounded by native Tennessee wildflowers that grow around and on the figure as a play on “home.” As the flowers get closer to the lower abdomen (obscured by flowers), the vines begin to subtly develop into thorns as a commentary on the current state of female reproductive rights within the state. The overall vibe of the painting is very tranquil and utopic, but with veiled darker elements for those who notice them."
